Biblical Leadership

Ryan Lowery
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

Biblical leadership is accomplished through flawed people, willing to be servants. We are called to acknowledge the role of leaders, understanding they have a God-given role, and we should not make it difficult for them. We are also not to put them on a pedestal. Christian leaders are not called to control people, but rather to help people make decisions about their life, informed about the Biblical perspective on their choices.

Servant Leadership

James Rochford
Mark 10:32-45

In a world full of selfishness and scandals, Jesus defines leadership as sacrificial serving--putting ourselves below others, willing to give of ourselves, not looking for power.

Slaves and Masters

Ben Foust
Ephesians 6:5-9

Paul continues this section of Ephesians, applying the principles of walking God's way to concrete relationships. In this passage, he gives instructions for Slaves and Masters as they interact with one another. Contrary to popular belief, the Bible does not condone slavery, bu rather presents a radical message of love and equality. Practical application can be drawn for anyone in a relationship of authority.

Husbands & Wives

Ben Foust
1 Peter 3:1-9

Peter speaks to the relationship between Christian husbands and wives. Today this passage is often controversial, when ideas like submission and obedience are taken out of their literary and historical context. However, when we interpret Peter's writing in light of context we see God's beautiful plan for a healthy marriage relationship, one in which the husband lays down his life as a servant leader and a wife supports and respects her husband. Such marriages can be lights in the darkness in a society that largely fails in the area of marriage.

Persuasion vs. Pressure

John Ross
1 Peter 3:1-9

Being persuasive is a key factor in convincing others to give their lives to God. Using pressure can be counter-productive or ineffective in making our case. This teaching highlights what it looks like to be persuasive for God and how to avoid pressuring people. The teacher explains the effects of pressuring people and what it means about us. With the correct understanding we can create a healthy tension where we work with people, not against them.

Fresh Tips on Tough Talks

John Ross
1 Peter 3:1-9

Anyone called to Christian leadership will be faced with many difficult conversations as they love those entrusted to their care. As we move in to bring biblical truth to people (which is often in opposition to the mainstream cultural view) we may find ourselves in a tricky situation. It's helpful to understand what's really going on in difficult conversations, how to recognize when things get off track, and how to move the discussion back to a constructive course.

The Confluence of Character and Competence in Leadership (Part 1)

Josh Benadum
1 Timothy 3:1-15

Being an effective spiritual leader requires more than charisma or influence. Good character, with the proper equipping is more important. 4 different qualities of this character include: hospitality, not being self-willed, gentleness, and enthusiasm. Josh breaks down the impact of neglecting growth in these areas and how to grow in them also.

Creative Leadership

John Ross
Mark 12:29-31

Leadership in the Christian sense requires problem-solving, meeting unique needs, and helping improve the spiritual health of others around us. Thus creativity is imperative for success. Creative leadership is a biblical principal, and we would be wise to assess the components: passion, teamwork, wisdom, research, critical thinking and experience. This workshop explores both barriers to creative leadership as well as tips for growth in this area.

Winning Men in a Culture of Passivity

Doug O'Malley
James 4:17

The statistics exposing the passivity of men in our culture are grim, and the church is by no means exempt. Passivity is a lack of action or response, a sin of omission. This workshop provides practical resources for challenging Christian men in this area, ranging from conversations we should ensure we are having, to group ethos changes, to suggestions of how to help motivate them towards God. Jesus wants to draw all men to himself, and we should fight diligently to win men into lives devoted to Christ.
