Romans 15:13

God wants to fill us so completely that we overflow with peace and joy in abundance. Just like Paul's Roman audience, modern Christians live stress-filled lives that leave us too often feeling depleted, running on empty. The answer to feeling empty is to thirst for God. As you trust in him, he will fill you to overflowing with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Backward Wisdom of God (Part One)

James says one of the qualities of a mature Christian is developing and acting out of wisdom--the ability to properly apply knowledge about God to everyday living. Wisdom produces the ability to live out the good life God intends for people, but often seems counter-intuitive to our common understanding (man's wisdom). If we trust in God's wisdom and not our own natural wisdom we will find peace, relational unity, and more benefits, while James says relying on our own wisdom will yield jealousy, selfish ambition, and other negative results. If we will trust Him, God is always ready to help us grow in His wisdom, even if we've failed in the past.

We are living during a time of great confusion and fear. In times like this, we wonder where God is? How can God allow things like this to happen? Jesus gives us a clear example where we learn what God is really like. He is our loving father who allows us the freedom to make mistakes but welcomes us home into His embrace when we choose Him. We are the family of God with a loving father, and when times are tough we need to come together as God's people to show His mercy and His love, to those who feel isolated and alone.

James warns believers not to be deceived and fall to temptation, which often promises freedom and happiness, but instead often leads to addiction, shame, and alienated relationships. In order to break the cycle of temptation, we must identify what part of our desire is legitimate and where we may be deceived, turning to the Word of God to shed light, and recognizing that every temptation is an opportunity to trust and glorify God.
